Pajaro Valley High senior Christian Quintero — one of Santa Cruz County's top basketball players — passed on options to make the jump to a four-year program to play next season at Cabrillo College under first-year head coach James Page.

Quintero repeated as MVP of the Pacific Coast Athletic League's Cypress Division after helping the Grizzlies (11-14, 7-3) finish in third place in the middle division of the five-tiered equity league.

"It came down to making the right choice for me," the 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard said. "After all we're going through right now and it's close to home …"

Quintero said he was close to signing with San Francisco State University before deciding to attend the community college in Aptos. He also drew interest from Sonoma State University and Cal State University Monterey Bay.
