2019 Softball EOY awards announced

APTOS, California - The 2019 softball season for the Cabrillo College Seahawks may have ended in heartbreak, but that doesn't mean the players went home empty handed.

Following their home loss to Reedley College in the first round of the CCCAA playoffs, eight of the 14 players on Cabrillo’s roster were recognized during various end of the year awards, led by freshman outfield sensation Lauren Lahood who was named a 2019 NFCA NorCal JC All-American.

From the very first practice of the season, the Seahawks focused on earning their way back into the playoffs over any personal statistical achievement.

The team messaging was consistent, this was going to be a ‘turn around year,’ built on selfless team play and solid pitching.

Based upon the total number of Seahawks recognized, it is safe to say that their mission was accomplished.

Sophomore shortstop Maddy Johnson got her fair share of accolades when she was named to the All Academic Team in addition to being named to the first team All-Conference Team.

Other than Lahood and Johnson, two additional Seahawks earned spots on the Coast Conference South first team; sophomore pitchers Miranda Jansich and pitcher/utility player Brianna Lamb.

Three other Seahawks were named to the All Conference second team; first base sophomore Kacey Sugimoto as well as freshmen utility players Andrea Duran and Savanah Quinta-Martin.

Freshman catcher Nichole Garcia ended up on the honorable mention list, despite ending the year tied for third in total RBI (40) in the conference.

Lahood, Duran, Quintana-Martin and Garcia are all planning on returning for the 2020 season. Cabrillo softball won’t be rebuilding next year, they will be reloading.
