2019 Volleyball Schedule Release

2019 Volleyball Schedule Release

The Cabrillo College Seahawks women's volleyball team is proud to announce its 2019 roster and schedule as well as multiple changes to the structure of its coaching staff.

Led by 2nd-year head coach Kelsee Montagna, the Seahawks will look to sharpen their talons for their pursuit of a historic 13th consecutive Coast Conference title this weekend as they play in a scrimmage tournament in San Luis Obispo.

Last season the Seahawks won their 108th consecutive conference match-up finishing the season with a record of 27-3. The Seahawks have not lost a Coast Conference game since 2009.

Montagna, a Cabrillo volleyball alumna who was a captain on the 2013 CCCAA State Championship team, was officially named as a full-time volleyball coach and faculty member following the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Despite the school's reputation as a volleyball powerhouse, the hiring of coach Montagna marks the first time in 15 years Cabrillo has fielded a team led by a full-time coach and faculty member.

With 2018 Coast Conference First Team selection Kendra Lis anchoring the new rotations, there is no doubt that this seasons squad has high expectations of what they may accomplish together. The 5'10 sophomore from Pacific Grove led the state in assists per set and finished second in total assists.

Lis is an integral part of the 13 player roster that features a balanced mix of fresh faces and savvy veterans. Five of the 13 players on this year's team are sophomores including; Ellie Cary, Jordyn Skucius, Brianna Ayala, Sierra Martin and Lis.

This will be the first roster stocked by the fruits of coach Montagna's recruiting, so keep a close eye on this group of freshmen.

The Seahawks also added two new assistant coaches over the summer.

Coach Gerardo Aleu earned his stripes as a setter on the Argentina national team after winning five high school national titles and a collegiate title at the University of Del Litoral. Coach Aleu has instructed math at Cabrillo College since 2010 and first became affiliated with the athletic department in 2019 when he worked with the Beach program.

The Seahawks also welcomed Coach Derek Wolf to their cadre after he spent the 2018 season volunteering with the team. Coach Wolf lives and breaths the sport of volleyball, both indoors and beach, and he holds the CBVA record for kills in a match with 44.

After graduating from Cabrillo, Montagna went on to play volleyball at the University of Providence where she served as a captain and starter for two years. In her senior season, Montagna led the Argos to a 26-10 record and was named to the Frontier All-Conference First Team.

Upon graduating Montagna transition into the role of graduate assistant and recruiting coordinator for her alma mater.

The 2018 roster recruited by Montagna went on to win U of P's first Frontiere Conference title in school history.

In addition to her duties with the indoor program, Montagna will continue to serve as the head coach of the beach volleyball program which she took over last year.
