APTOS, CA – The Cabrillo Seahawks are the 2022 Coast Conference Champions with a perfect conference record (12-0). A 5-0 sweep against West Valley solidified the Seahawks for 1st place advantage over the Vikings.
The Seahawks are 19-1 overall, with their only loss to Division I Santa Clara University.
"Not only does this group deserve the recognition but they have earned it every step of the way," said head coach Kelsee Montagna. "This group is dedicated to getting better every single day regardless of wins, losses, or upcoming opponents... They stay focused and committed to doing the right thing and it's paid off."
Solidifying first place allows the Seahawks to send 5 pairs into the Coast Conference Tournament which they will host this Friday, 4/29 at Main Beach (Santa Cruz, Ca.).
"We have had some unfortunate injuries throughout the year and have shuffled quite a few players around, however we are now back at full strength and excited to see these pairs compete for a shot to make it to the State Tournament."
The Coast Conference Pairs Tournament is a double elimination bracket and the top 16 advance to the Northern California Pairs Tournament played the following week (5/6) at West Valley College. The top 16 pairs from the Coast and the top 8 pairs from Big 8 will then compete for a top 12 spot to advance to the State Pairs Tournament (5/13-5/14).
"Our ladder is the strongest it's been, top to bottom. We have something special. We've known it for the past two years and just excited for our players to be able to show it at the State level."
Cabrillo will hold the top seed in Northern California and will host 1 of the 2 3-team pools on Tuesday, May 3rd at Main Beach (Santa Cruz, Ca.). Match times are 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
