Cabrillo College's football program will return from the dead in the Fall of 2022.

The school's board of trustees, in a 7-0 vote Monday night, elected to reinstate the program following its two-year suspension.

"I'm ecstatic," said Louie Walters, a former Seahawks player who serves as Scotts Valley High's football coach and athletics director. "Cabrillo football has been a fixture in this community for many, many years and I'm glad it's back."

Factoring into the board's decision was the opportunity to retain local students who might commute to neighboring colleges in San Jose, Gilroy, Salinas and Monterey to continue their playing careers and education.
