APTOS — John Wilson, 57, retired as Cabrillo College women's basketball coach following the Seahawks' 63-44 drubbing of visiting De Anza in their regular-season finale Wednesday night.

Wilson, who coached at Soquel High for nearly two decades when he stepped down as coach in 2015, took over the Seahawks in the 2015-16 season. During his seven-year tenure with the Seahawks, he posted an 81-63 record and guided the the program to back-to-back Coast Conference South Division titles (2018 and '19).

This year's youth-laden squad finished 7-15 overall, 5-5 in conference.

"I did this as a favor to (former athletic director) Dale Murray and figured I would do a couple of years, and this makes seven," Wilson said. "I went longer than I probably should have, so it was a good run and a lot of fun."
