2021 Cabrillo Women's Soccer Preview

With summer coming to a rapid halt, Cabrillo College is now in full swing. Students are now back to in-person classes and the Cabrillo College women's soccer team is set to play in their season opener this Friday August 27th at Cabrillo College against visiting Evergreen College.

The Seahawks come into this year off of a 9-9-2 campaign in 2020, narrowly missing the playoffs. Coached by Gladys Mondragon, the Seahawks are looking to improve in all facets of the game and they will be doing so with many new faces on the pitch, as Cabrillo returns only five of their players from last year's team.

With so many roster spots to fill Coach Mondragon has brought in a plethora of new local talent to help the Seahawks take the next step into the playoffs. The Seahawks roster is loaded with local players from all over Santa Cruz County. Of the 22 women on the roster, 18 of them played their highschool soccer here in Santa Cruz County. That includes incoming freshman goalkeeper out of Watsonville High School Jessica Zavala, who the Seahawks have high expectations of to help bolster down the defensive end of the field.

Cabrillo seeks to start this year on a high note and they have the opportunity to do so at home as they will play their first three games of the season at Carl Conelly Stadium in Aptos. Seahawks fans have a lot to look forward to this year as Coach Mondragon and the squad begin their quest for the postseason this Friday.
