APTOS — Santa Cruz's Justin Hansen, 45, a former Cabrillo College linebacker and defensive coordinator, was named the Seahawks' new head football coach Monday evening, when his hiring as a teacher and coach was approved by the school's governing board.

"My excitement is through the roof," Hansen said. "I'm just excited Cabrillo football is back and that there's a home for these boys to play."

In the midst of a two-year suspension following a rules infractionCabrillo reinstated the program on May 10. The Seahawks return to action in the fall of 2022. Due to California Community College Athletic Association sanctions starting then, the Seahawks will be ineligible for postseason competition for two years.

"I'm beyond excited at the hire," said Mark Ramsey, Cabrillo's associate dean of athletics. "He's exactly what we wanted: local, embedded in the community, played at Cabrillo, coached at Cabrillo and loves the program. I'm excited to see that the future brings.
