Coach James Page will be entering his 4th season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Cabrillo. Named Head Coach in 2020 after serving as an Assistant for 8 seasons under Tony Marcopulos, the COVID pandemic delayed the start of his tenure, but in 2021/22 his 1st true season at the helm ended with a 18-12 record, a 1st round road playoff win vs. American River College (83-64) before losing to eventual state champion City College of San Francisco (79-69).The Seahawks placed several players on the Coast South All Conference Team. Austin James (1st Team), Jonel Aponte (2nd Team), Alphonse Alfred (Honorable Mention), Joe Rush (1st Team All Freshman), Ronique Spencer (1st Team All Defense) and Samy Buteau (1st Team All Defense) were all recognized by the Conference for their performance throughout the year. The Seahawks saw several of their sophomores (6) receive athletic scholarships to continue their career.

Austin James (Grand Valley State), Jonel Aponte (MidAmerica Nazarene), Alphonse Alfred (Benedictine), Brandon Harmon, (UC Merced), Myron Dews (San Diego Christian), D’Andre Johnson (Benedictine) all moved on with Scholarships to their 4 year colleges to continue their academic and athletic careers.

The 2022/23 season posed a very different challenge, having to replace 9 sophomores who had been in the program for 2 or 3 years, the Seahawks were young and inexperienced. After a 3rd palace finish in the Coast South and a playoff berth in year 1, the Hawks struggled in close games going 1-9 in games decided by 3 pts or less, finished the year 13-14, taking 4th in the Coast South and did not make the postseason tournament. Cabrillo still saw several players recognized by the Conference, Darius Best (1st Team All Conference & 1st Team All Freshman), Joe Rush (2nd Team, 1st Team All Defense), Solomon Tucker (1st Team All Defense).

Joe Rush (Marian U), Samy Buteau (U of Victoria) and Cainan Wright (Truett McConnell) all moved on with scholarships to the 4 year level to continue their careers.

The 2023/24 season was one to be remembered! The season was filled with record breaking performances, from the best start in school history (12-0), to the first Saltwater Classic Championship, to the highest ranking in school history (no.3 in the state), the most wins in school history (25) to the first birth in the state final 8 in the programs history. The Seahawks were the no.1 scoring team in Northern California (87ppg) breaking the 100pt mark on 10 separate occasions. The Seahawks finished the regular season 23-5, after receiving a 1st round bye, Cabrillo beat Fresno City (97-79) before knocking off City College of San Francisco (81-80) on the road, securing a berth in the states final 8 for the 1st time in program history. Cabrillo’s eason would come to an end at the hands of the defending state champs Fullerton College (78-67) to finish the season 25-6.

Darius Best & Solomon Tucker were both named 1st Team All Coast South, Jalen Cunningham was named 2nd Team, Taray Winfrey was named Honorable Mention, while Tucker was also named DPOY. Tucker & Best also became only the 2nd pair of All State Players in the program's history and the fist to both be named as at large selections.

Darius Best (Dominican U), Solomon Tucker (Catawba College), Clarence Martin (Montana Western), and Chrsitian Rodriguez (CSU Maritime) all are continuing their careers at the 4 year level.

As an Assistant on staff under Tony Marcopulos for 8 seasons the Seahawks won 6 Conference Championships, had 7 players named Conference MVP, made 6 state playoff appearances, moved on nearly 30 kids to the 4 year level and won almost 150 games.

Prior to Cabrillo Coach Page served on staff at his alma mater UC Santa Cruz for 8 seasons under Gordon Johnson. In his time at UCSC the team improved its win totals for 5 consecutive seasons finishing at 15-12 in his final season, which at the time was the best record in school history.

Coach Page played 2 years at UC Santa Cruz (2001-2003) after playing 2 years at the University of Redlands (1998-2000). He graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2003 with a degree in Sociology and received a masters from Ohio University in Sports and Recreational Sciences in 2015.

Coach Page is originally from Ramona, he currently lives in Aptos with his wife China Page.
